The remains of the fatalities as well as the wounded persons were airlifted to Zamboanga City this morning.

ZAMBOANGA CITY, July 5 (PIA) – The C-130 plane that crashed yesterday in Patikul, Sulu was in “tip-top shape, but not brand new”, said military spokesperson Major General Edgard Arevalo in a press conference this morning (July 5).

“There is no truth that the aircraft is defective. And the pilots are all seasoned in experience,” General Arevalo said as he called for public sobriety amidst ongoing investigations.

“It has more than 11,000 flying hours remaining,” he added.

“The C-130 is one of the sturdiest, strongest aircraft in our inventory. We have to wait for the result of the investigation to find out what really happened,” he said.

The C-130 plane, donated by the United States government reportedly overshot the runway and crashed in the municipality of Patikul. 50 people were killed including 47 soldiers who were passengers and 3 civilians “who were on the ground when the accident happened”. Arevalo added there were a total of 96 passengers as per the flight manifesto.
