ZAMBOANGA CITY, Sept 20 (PIA) – Ten farmers’ associations (FAs) from ten different municipalities in the Zamboanga del Norte province received from the Department of Agriculture (DA) IX Corn Program over Php 1,335,700.00 worth of farm machinery and equipment recently.

DA9 Regional Corn Coordinator Lorie Lee F. Estrevillo said that the agri-assistance for the farmers given on September 10 aims to increase corn and cassava production to develop the industries in the country.

The farmers received two (2) units cassava chipper, two (2) units cassava grater with presser, five (5) units of collapsible dryer and three (3) units of open-source pump, during the turnover held at Bamboo Gardens, Dipolog City.

Agricultural Provincial Coordinator for Zamboanga del Norte George Vallente also urged the farmer leaders to take care of the equipment so it can last.

"We are hopeful that you will utilize these interventions wisely so you will progress as farmers who provide food for the Filipinos,” Vallente added.

Moreover, Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Council coordinator Leonardo P. Caparida assured the farmers of DA’s support to them.

"Nobody knows when this pandemic will end, what we know is that it will not hinder the DA to provide you your needed assistance," he said.

Also present to attend the activity were the Municipal Agriculturists and other LGU personnel to show support to the program. (EDT/RVC/PIA9 with reports from Aimee Lou Madjus/DA-RFO IX, RAFIS)
