Comelec commended local candidates on success of Unity Walk, Peace Covenant Signing

 By Gideon C. Corgue

PAGADIAN CIY, 04 February (PIA) —The provincial office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) commended the active support of local candidates and stakeholders in the success of the 'Unity Walk, Inter-Faith Prayer Rally and Peace Covenant Signing' recently.

Atty. John Paul Cubero, provincial election supervisor and concurrent assistant regional election director said that the government and private sectors, non-government organization (NGO), religious, tribal groups, political parties, and voters are working together to make the historic event possible.

Cubero observed that political differences among local candidates have been temporarily set aside in order to achieve honest, peaceful, credible national and local elections on the upcoming May 9, 2022.

He also encouraged local candidates to be good examples to the people by showing their sportsmanship.

“I encourage you to serve as good examples to the people by showing your sportsmanship. Whether you win or lose, do not be selfish and do not harm your political opponents, "Cubero said adding that in the election there are winners, there are also losers.

He further urged local candidates to be ‘humble in their victory and gracious in their defeat’.

“If you win and become leaders, it is your responsibility to serve everyone and for the losing candidates, you must support your opponent’s programs as long as it is for the good of our society,” Cubero announced.

After the unity walk and inter-faith prayer rally, the local candidates formally held their ‘integrity pledge’ and signed the peace covenant at the Saint Columban College-Youth Development Center (SCC-YDC).

Local candidates vying for the position of governor, vice governor, congressman, city mayor, vice mayor, board members, and city councilors attended the event. (EDT/GCC/PIA-Zamboanga del Sur)
