Women's Day celebration in Dipolog highlights Retro Dance, Best Nanay contests

DIPOLOG CITY, Zambaonga del Norte, Mar. 9 (PIA) - "Today is our day!" declared Ms. Arlyn Jatico, head of the Dipolog City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) before the women participants of the Women's Day celebration held at a local hotel here.


The City Government of Dipolog, thru the CSWDO, kicked-off the celebration of the National Women’s Day with lined-up activities for women from the different barangays of the City anchored on the theme “We make Change Work for Women”.

 

Since 2017, the theme has been used for National Women’s Month focusing on empowerment of women as contributors and claimholders of development.

 

Guest speakers including 2nd District Representative Glona Labadlabad said as active contributors of development in the community, women anchored their efforts on the commitment to build change.

 

Former Dipolog City Mayor Evelyn T Uy related her past leadership as consultative and responsive to the people’s need especially women leaders to build livelihood programs such as bakery and sardines factory which are still operational for 16 years now. 

 

Atty Jasmin Pinsoy-Lagutin, city councilor noted in her message that women go through different sets of challenges and stressed some biases between men and women. 

 

Meanwhile, Police Lieutenant Charlote Maghinay Lapiz of PNP Dipolog shared with the participants the initiatives of their office in maintaining the women and children’s desk and its functionality for those in need. 

 

The opening of the Women's Day celebration highlights the awarding of Php20,000 to Barangay Miputak as the most functional Violence Against Women (VAW) Desk.

 

For the two-day celebration, a Retro Dance Competition was also held on the same day and the Search for Best Nanay will be held tomorrow, March 9 6:30 pm at the Dipolog City Boulevard. (EDT/PIA Zamboanga del Norte/ ojt-NMB)
