ZAMBOANGA CITY, Sept 14 (PIA) – Peace and order in Sulu has greatly improved through the support of President Rodrigo Duterte to the security efforts in the province, as illustrated by more people enjoying the local tourism and robust economy, said Governor Abdusakur Tan.

Sulu’s economy is driven by fishing and agriculture such as coconut, abaca and coffee.

“More families go out and have picnics, go swimming, biking, and do other recreational activities now, and this is because of the improved peace and order situation. In addition, Sulu’s economy continuous to grow,” Tan said.

Recently, the Land Bank of the Philippines put up more ATM machines in the province, Tan added. More banks have also been put up in Sulu.

During the Laging Handa Network Briefing on Tuesday (Sept. 14) hosted by Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar, Tan said that the improved peace and order situation can be attributed to the decision of the President to have more local soldiers, and the establishment of a police training center in the province.

“We are very thankful to President Duterte for putting up the 11th Infantry Division here with more Tausug soldiers,” Tan said.

He also lauded Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar for personally boosting the morale of the police in Sulu by visiting all the police stations in the province.

The governor also expressed his gratitude to Senator Bong Go for establishing two Malasakit Centers in the province. (RVC/DIS/PIA9-Zamboanga City)
