ZAMBOANGA CITY, Oct. 11 (PIA) – The City Government adjusted the conduct of religious activities for the celebration of Feast of Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar or Fiesta Pilar on October 12 due to the surge of COVID-19 cases in Zamboanga City.

The public is notified that the implementation of curfew and quarantine passes is lifted on October 11 and 12, 2021 (as provided under Executive Order 685) to allow the faithful and pilgrims to visit the Shrine and only 30 persons will be accommodated at one time.

Moreover, the procession, a pilgrimage of Nuestra Senora La Virgen del Pilar on different medical facilities is scheduled October 11 at six in the afternoon. The Archdiocese of Zamboanga also announced that all six Masses scheduled on October 12 are cancelled. The Pontifical Mass at 5pm will be live streamed, with no congregation. The Fort Pilar Shrine will be closed by 4:00pm to 6:30pm.

The month-long celebration of Zamboanga Hermosa Festival is known to be the grandest and colorful festival in Zamboanga Peninsula, however, due to the pandemic, most of the activities are held virtually and the theme for this year’s celebration is still to promote a Safe Hermosa Festival celebration for all Zamboangeños.

“With the virtual component it can reach more people and also promote our culture to the people outside Zamboanga City,” said Christian Olasiman, head of City Special Events team.

The City Government prepared activities that people may still enjoy while they are in the comforts of their home, “we want to ensure the safety of the people that while we are celebrating we are also conscious of our safety and safety of our families,” Olasiman added.
