Zambo City records more active COVID-19 cases among unvaccinated individuals

By: Jayson R. Aucensillo

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Oct 08 (PIA) -- The Zamboanga City Health Office (ZCHO) reported recently that most of the admitted COVID-19 patients here are unvaccinated individuals.

“Some 78% or 1,672 of the total 2,151 active COVID-19 patients (as of October 04) were not inoculated,” City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite said.

On the other hand, 479 or 22% of the active cases are individuals who have had their COVID-19 vaccine shots.

The health officer lamented that there are still several Zamboangueรฑos who did not yet take the COVID-19 vaccines due to scarcity of supplies.

"Marami tayo pero wala nang mga bakuna," the doctor affirmed.

According to the City Health Office, a total of 332,568 doses of COVID vaccines have been administered in Zamboanga City as of October 4, 2021.

With this, a total of 195,501 individuals or 28% of the target eligible population of 694,696 received their first dose while 137,067 individuals or 20% got their second dose and are now considered fully vaccinated.

The ZCHO also attributed the high number of COVID cases to community transmission as well as the presence of more contagious variants in the city.

Per the latest data, 359 cases are admitted in different hospitals, 343 in isolation facilities, and 1,449 are presently quarantined at home and waiting to be transferred to isolation facilities.

“If there are available vaccines, we encourage to take it and be fully vaccinated,” Dr. Miravite said. (RVC/EDT/JRA/PIA9-Zamboanga City with reports from ZC-PIO)
