by : Jocelyn P. Alvarez

IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay, Sept 07 (PIA– The Local Government Unit of Imelda offers raffle prizes such as motorcycle vehicle, television sets, and sacks of rice, for those who will be inoculated.

Mayor Roselyn Silva of Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay during the Network Briefing News said her administration is offering these incentives to encourage individuals to get inoculated and achieve herd immunity.

Silva said, of the 30,000 target individuals for inoculation, the municipality has so far inoculated a total of 5,562 of which 2,544 are fully vaccinated while 3,018 received their first dose.

Silva said “wala kami nag kulang sa IEC, we even went down the Barangay to do the information dissemination.”

She added that they even prepared snacks and packed lunch for the vaccinees every time they conduct inoculation to make sure that people stay up to the last minute of their inoculation.

Silva attributed the hesitancy of her constituents to receive the COVID-19 vaccine to malicious or fake news seen and heard.

Silva who is herself fully vaccinated, in her testimony said, “dili angay mahadlok magpa vaccine, labaw nga mahadlok kung wala pay vaccine” (there is nothing to be afraid of, it’s more frightening without the vaccine).

Silva narrated she did not feel any negative or adverse effect when she got her vaccine dose and even went on a whole day field work just so to prove to her people that getting vaccinated is the prime protection one can get against COVID-19 including the Delta variant.

Meanwhile Silva said, part of the demand generation effort of her municipality is the conduct of COVID-19 virtual Information Session this September, in partnership with the Philippine Information Agency, Department of Health and the Provincial Health Office with individuals from categories A4 and A5 as target participants.

As of September 6, 2021, Imelda town has 8 active cases of COVID 19.  Total confirmed is 256 of which 239 have already recovered with 8 deaths.

“Nag invest g'yud me sa RTPCR test, libre swab, walay bayad. Mao ni isa sa pamaagi  haron mapugngan ang community transmission (We invested in the RTPCR-Test. We give free swab test as one way of controlling community transmission.),” she said. (RVC/EDT/JPA/PIA-Zamboanga Sibugay)
