ZAMBOANGA CITY, Sept 6 (PIA) -- After clinching the gold medal for weightlifting in women’s division on the recent Tokyo Olympics 2020, Philippine Olympian Hidilyn Diaz emphasized that gender is never a hindrance in joining sports.

"Walang gender ang sports,” said Gold Medalist Hidilyn Diaz during the Kapihan na Zamboanga in SM City Mindpro recently.

The Olympian is hopeful to spread total awareness about weightlifting and promote the sport not just to men but to women as well. “Napatunayan naman natin na ang mga Pilipino, mapa lalaki o babae magaling talaga sa larangan ng sports,” affirmed by Diaz.

Moreover, Diaz remains optimistic that the youth particularly Zamboangueรฑos, will be given the chance to study and avail several sports scholarship programs that are being catered to by the local and national government.

“The preparations to reach our dreams are very hard. We need people behind us because we cannot really do it alone and it takes a village to win a gold medal,” the Olympian added.

Diaz advised sports enthusiasts to always have trust and confidence in themselves.

“This gold medal is not just only for me, but this is for all Zamboangueรฑos and for the entire nation. Dream high because nothing is impossible if we have aims in life,” Diaz concluded. (RVC/EDT/JRA/PIA9-Zamboanga City)
